Special
Guest Teacher
It was a great Friday in our classroom! We had a special guest
teacher in our classroom to help us make corn husk dolls. Retired art teacher,
Nancy Stahalick, started out the lesson by reading the Native American legend
about the No-Face Doll. After hearing the legend, it was time to start making
the corn husk doll. The students did an excellent job listening and following
her directions. She will return next Friday to help the students put the
finishing touches on the corn husk doll.

In Writer’s Workshop we have been trying out different
informational text structures. Students tried writing about their topic in four
different text structures. The four text
structures the students tried out were boxes and bullets, compare and contrast,
pros and cons, and cause and effect. This practice helped the students realize
that their topic may be better suited for one type of text structure over
another.
In reading we continue our unit on non-fiction text. Students
are reading non-fiction texts on life in the colonial period of America.
In math we will be starting a new chapter on subtraction with
regrouping.
