In Writer,s Worksop we have started our informational writing unit. Yesterday students planned their book by writing a strong table of contents. Doing the table of contents first helped the students break down their topic into sub-topics(chapters), make sure they had enough information for each chapter, and decide of the structure of their book. This activity made some students realize their first topic choice was not going to work and a few students changed their topic.
What we are doing in reading really goes with what the students are doing in writer's workshop. In reading we have started a unit on non-fiction text. Students are learning about the text features of non- fiction text and how these features help the reader understand and organize what they are reading.
The 6th grade food drive ends tomorrow. I challenged the students to bring in two food items for the food drive. Thank you to everyone who donated to this great cause!
Be sure to ask your child about the big daddy jellyfish greeting we did at meeting yesterday. It was quite fun! This was another greeting that Mr. B taught the staff.
