Do you know EDITH?

Today we had a fire woman  from the Sunderland Fire Department come in and talk to both third grade classes. The fire department came to talk to the kids about EDITH. EDITH stands for Emergency Exits Drills In The Home. Students learned the importance of having an emergency plan for their family in the event of a fire. This plan should include a meeting place and at least two ways out of every room. Students were given time to create an emergency exit plan for their house. The fire department even assigned the students homework. Students are to work together with their family to create an emergency exit plan for their house. The students' emergency exit plans are due back to school on Thursday, April 17th. The fire department will choose a winner from each class and those students will win a prize!

Today in math we worked on finding area. We found the area of "irregular" shapes by dividing the shape into rectangles, finding the area of the rectangles, and adding those together to find the area of the whole shape. After we finish our geometry unit we will begin a unit on measurement that includes both standard and metric units.

Here are some important reminders:
Students need to bring their recorders to school next Tuesday, April 15th to practice the song they will be playing at Arts Night.
Wednesday, April 16th we will have a Fun Run. (I, unfortunately, will miss this event due to a grade level meeting.)
Emergency Exit plans are due Thursday, April 17th.

Have a great night!
Remember to fill someone's bucket!
