On Friday our classroom was visited by Firefighter Meagan. She was there to talk to the students about household hazards. First, she talked about what kinds of potential hazards students might be able to find in each room of their house. After that students were put in small groups. Each group was given a picture of a room in a house. The students job was to find all the potential hazards in their pictures. Finally, each group shared with the rest of the class what hazards they found and explained what danger that hazard posed. It was a great lesson and students were very actively engaged in it. Be sure to ask your student what they learned. Maybe you can even look for potential hazards in your house and takes steps to correct them. Firefighter Meagan will be back in the spring for another great lesson.

Our class is taking part in an exciting project with few other classrooms at our school. Our class is writing pen pal letters to students at the Life School in Guatemala. On Friday students started writing to third graders at the Life School. Students wrote the first paragraph of their letter. In their letter students told their pen pal in Guatemala a little about themselves and where they are from. On Monday students will continue writing their letter. Students will askng their pen pal a few questions so they can learn about them and their life in Guatemala. I am very excited about this project and can't wait for the students to hear back from their pen pal. :)
