Birds, Ball Field, and Buddies

I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving spent with family and friends. I hope your power stayed on during the snowstorm. I hope you got a chance to get outside and play in the snow with your child(ren). I love the snow and had a great time sledding with my kids. It was a great break, but I am looking forward to getting back into the classroom tomorrow! ( I can't wait to hear about the kids' adventures tomorrow at morning greeting.)

Last Monday, I stopped by art class to se the bird sculptures that the students have been working on for the past few weeks. I was so impressed with what I saw. The students are doing some great work with their sculptures!

Ben is creating a great looking penguin!

                                                         Love Jack's bird!

                                                           Working hard!

Last Friday, we met our kindergarten buddies for the first time this school year. Our class has kindergarten buddies in Ms. Antes' class. We joined her class to play math games. I was so impressed with our students. They did such a great job with their kindergarten buddies. As I walked around the kindergarten classroom I heard our students patiently helping out their buddies, encouraging their buddies, and letting their buddies know they were doing a great job. It was fantastic to see the students step right into the role of teacher and role model. What a fantastic group of third graders!

Before the students could help the kindergarten students play the math games they had to learn how to play the game themselves. Last Thursday, students spent math time learning how to play the math games they would be playing with their kindergarten buddies. It was great fun!

Riley and Ben learn how to play Bear Tracks

Jenaily and Cole learn Bear Tracks

Learning to play Bag That Number

Ms. Giardi teaches how to play Capture the Five

Learning to play Whole Part Bingo

Ben explains Capture the Five to hig buddy
                                                      Ben and his buddy

Sarafina's buddy teaches her sign language

                                                 Look at Caroline's smile!

Spending time with our kindergarten buddies was great fun! I can't wait to spend more time with them in December!  :)

On Tuesday a dream of Mr. Merritt's came true, the softball field in front of the school was finished and ready for play. A short dedication ceremony was held at the end of the day. The ceremony was attended by Superintendent Marty Barrett and Mr. Merritt's mother and sisters. I am sure Mr. Merritt will be smiling and looking down from above to watch all of the games that get played on the field.

As the Thanksgiving break draws to close I want to say thank you for trusting me with your child. I feel truly blessed to get to spend my days with such a great group of kiddos.

Enjoy your Sunday!
