Time to Play!

Monday was the day that all the students had been waiting for; it was the opening of Sunderland's new and improved playground. We started the morning outside at a ribbon cutting ceremony. Mr. B said a few words of thanks to all of the local businesses and volunteers who helped make the new playground a reality. John and Traci Sackrey of Sackrey construction ( and Ben's parents! ) cut the ribbon to officially open the playground to the serious business of play and fun. I want to say thank you to all the parents who volunteered their time to this very special project for the students of SES. I also want to thank all the local businesses who donated their time and hard work to our new playground.

Hopefully some of you spent your day off enjoying our new playground.

Caroline is all smiles as she waits to check out the new playground.

Mr. And Mrs. Sackrey cut the ribbon
And it's officially open for business!

Thank you to everybody who helped with this project!

                                                           The spider web

Monday during writing time we had a special visitor from the Whately Grange. Each year the Whately Grange visits all the third grade classrooms in our district to give each student their very own dictionary.
During the visit students learned about guide words, what information the dictionary provides about each entry word, and what other cool information is in the dictionary. A big thank you to the Whately Grange for our dictionaries.

                                                                Dictionaries!
In calendar math this month for measurement we are using inches, feet, and yards. Each day we add 1 foot or 12 inches. On Friday we talked about how many feet and yards we will have added by the end of the month. I challenged the students to figure out how many inches we will have added by the end of November if we add 12 inches every day. Two students took me up on the challenge and answered the question correctly. Chris and Jack figured out we will add 360 inches this month. On Monday when they came into school they found a special prize on their desk for their correct answers. Way to use your  multiplication strategies Chris and Jack. :)

I hope you enjoyed your day off.

Remember tomorrow is our Veteran's Day ceremony at the Sunderland Town Hall at about 9:00.

Have a great night!
