Today was Sunderland Elementary School's annual Veteran's Day ceremony at the town hall. It was our chance to come together as a community to say thank you to all the brave service men and woman who have served or are currently serving in the military. It was a wonderful ceremony. I would like to say a big thank you to Samara's mom, Ms. Portillo, who is currently serving in the Air Force overseas. It is because of people like her who make huge sacrifices for our country that you and I enjoy the freedoms we have. Thank you all military personnel.

The flag flying at the Sunderland Town Hall was a gift of appreciation that was sent to my class last year. It was sent to say thank for the donations that my class sent to soldiers stationed in Afganistan. The flag was flown over a 9/11 memorial on Bagram Air Force Base in Afganistan. It was such a honor for my class to receive this flag. (Our class will be participating in this community service project again this school year. More details will come later, this project will not happen until after the new year.)

My son, Trey, reading the thank you letter that accompanied the flag sent over from Afganistan.
After the ceremony the military personnel joined us back at the school to visit each classroom and talk to the students. Our students asked great questions of our special guests. The soldiers also joined the students in the cafeteria for lunch.
