On Friday we met again with our kindergarten buddies to help our buddies continue with their informational writing project. Some of our third graders helped the kindergarteners research their animal on the internet. Other students helped their kindergarten buddy begin writing their report. It is always great to get together with our kindergarten buddies; both classes do so well working together. I just love watching them work together!
In reading the students continue to read and learn about the Revolutionary War. The students are putting the knowledge they gained about key events leading up to the Revolutionary War to use writing a persuasive letter to either King George III or a member of Continental Congress. First, students picked a role either as a Loyalist or Patriot. Next, the students are writing a letter explaining either why the colonies should be free or why the colonies should remain loyal to the King.
In Writer's Workshop students continue to work on their biography of a famous American from the Revolutionary time period. Our next Writer's Celebration is scheduled for Friday, February 13th at 9:00. I hope you will be able to join us. Students will be sharing two pieces of writing from the informational writing unit. Students will share one informational piece on the topic of their choice and their biography. Students may choose to dress up as the famous American they wrote about for their biography. Dressing up is not required, but is the student' s choice. Look for a letter about the writing celebration to come home tomorrow.
