Author Visit!

Today was the author visit by local author Natasha Lowe. It was fabulous! :)

Natasha talked to the students about her two books, The Power of Poppy Pendle and The Courage  of Cat Campbell. She told the students that the inspiration for Poppy came from a stone goose her husband brought home from an auction. She discussed how revising is the part that takes the longest and the part she likes the most. It typically takes her about two years to revise a book! She also talked about her book that comes out in the fall, The Marvelous Magic of Miss Mabel. She also gave the kids a sneak peek at the cover for her new book.  She talked to the students about her life as a writer. She talked about where her ideas come from. The fact that she carries a small notebook with her so she can write down an idea whenever one comes to her. You could tell by listening to her talk that writing, books, and story telling are her passions. She gave the students a very important piece of advice-follow your passion, do what you love, and face your fears. When you do those things there is no limit on what you can accomplish. It was a great author visit! All the feedback I heard from students was very positive!

We had three lucky students in our classroom that not only got to to the author visit; Kunsang, Aniela, and Justin also got to go to mid-morning tea with Natasha.
