In math we are continuing with long division. This past week we divided whole numbers into decimals up to the hundredths place. Students have gotten much better at the steps of the standard algorithm for long division. Long division can be very tricky to master because there are so many steps! We also worked on solving word problems that have more than one step. This week we will finish up our module on multi- digit multiplication and division. Students will take an assessment on this module on Friday.
In Writer's Workshop students finished revising and editing their non-fiction feature article, and started using the Chromebooks to type their article. Students also began adding text features to their articles. Students will finish their feature articles this week. Towards the end go the week, students will begin their research project on a topic within Westward Expansion.
In Reader's Workshop we continued to read non-fiction texts. Students learned how to use main ideas and supporting details to write a summary. This week in Reader's Workshop students will begin reading non-fiction books on westward expansion.
I loved the instruments that the students created for their musical instrument project. There were some very creative projects! :)
Remember tomorrow is the last day to send in an order form and money to buy an autographed copy of one of Natasha Lowe's books. Natasha Lowe will be visiting the school on Thursday, February 4th.
I will not be at school tomorrow or Tuesday. I will be joining several other teachers and Mr. B at a two day workshop on Executive Function.
Have a great day! Enjoy the rest of your Sunday afternoon. :)
