Weekly Update

It is June and the school year is winding down, but we still have plenty of things to do to keep us learning and busy. This was a busy week. On Tuesday we took our end of the year field trip to the Tsongas Center in Lowell. It was a great field trip! I was impressed with the activities that kids participated in at the museum. The students received compliments about their behavior everywhere we went. the ice cream at Kimball Farm was delicious. It was a great day!  Wednesday afternoon was the spring concert out band and string students, as well as the fifth and sixth grade chorus. All the students sounded great! On Thursday our class participated in Sunderland in Action Day. Both fifth grade classes walked over to the New England Health Care Center and sang for the residents there. After performing four songs, the students helped out by weeding the gardens. The students sang beautifully

In math, we are focusing on geometry. Students are learning to classify quadrilateral based on their attributes. Students are also using protractors to measure angles.

In reader's workshop, students are working on their projects for their independent book projects. Their projects are due this Friday, June 9th. Students will be presenting their projects on Monday, June 12th.

In writer's workshop, students are continuing to work on their fantasy narratives. It is amazing to see how much some students have written. They are really enjoying writing their own fantasy stories.

Have a great Sunday afternoon!
