A Gorgeous Fall Day!

It was another gorgeous fall day here at Sunderland Elementary School. Today is Tuesday which means I had recess duty, so I got to go outside and enjoy this great fall New England weather.  I also got to enjoy watching a great soccer game, kids playing on the monkey bars, and a great game of tag. Recess duty is fun!

Inside the classroom it was another productive day. In writer’s workshop students were introduced to the narrative writing checklist that they will be using to evaluate their own writing pieces. Self-reflection is a big part of the writing process. Today we used the writing checklist to evaluate a sample piece of writing. Students not only told me what score they felt the piece of writing deserved, they also backed up their score with reasons why it deserved that score. We have some tough critics in our classroom, but students were able to give evidence to back up their score. At the end of writer’s workshop we took a few minutes to celebrate the progress students have made with small moment stories. Students are now really zooming in and making a movie in the reader’s mind. I am so proud of the progress I am seeing!

Don’t forget that we have recorder tomorrow!
