October 3rd, 2013

It was a gorgeous fall day here at Sunderland Elementary School. We took some time out from our learning to spend a little time outdoors. During recess the students helped shuck the corn that will be served tomorrow at lunch. Mr. B and our school superintendent, Mrs. Barrett, also lent a hand and helped shuck some corn. I can’t wait to eat an ear of corn tomorrow at lunch!

After lunch we took a walk to the sign in front of the school. Students drew pictures and wrote messages to honor Mr. Merritt.  It was touching to see all the kind words students wrote and the beautiful drawings of guitars, shamrocks, and hearts. As the students were working hard and putting their hearts into their messages, one student asked, “Do you think Mr. Merritt is reading our messages up in the sky?” My response, “Of course he can and I bet he is smiling while he is reading them.”

This week I have been amazed by the thoughtfulness and kindness of your children. Their words and emotions have touched my heart.  I say it again, I love my job. Thank you so much for placing your trust in me and sharing your wonderful children with me. I am so glad to be a part of the community of Sunderland Elementary School.
