Classroom News

Whoa! It's been a few days since I've posted to the blog. Our class has been very busy. Here is a quick update of what has been going on in our classroom. In Writer's Workshop students have been working on writing small moment stories that create a movie in the reader's mind. For the past two days students have been practicing writing different leads that will grab the reader's interest. Students learned five different leads they could use to start their small moment story. The leads students learned about where: sound effect lead, talking lead, question lead, action lead, and the snapshot lead. Students are doing a great job incorporating the leads they learned about into their small moment story.

In math we continue to work on multiplication. Students have been learning different ways to show multiplication problems. Students know how to show multiplication as repeated addition, equal groups, an array, and as a number bond. Today in math we started learning division. Students are using what they know about multiplication to help them solve division problems.

In reading we are reading the book The Bears on Hemlock Mountain.  We are focusing on finding an answer to a comprehension question by looking back in the text. We are also working on answering comprehension questions in complete sentences and rewording the question as part of our answer.

This year our class is very lucky to have Mrs. Palmer come to our class once a week. Mrs. Palmer teaches the students about how to treat other people, how to express our feelings appropriately, and to recognize and respect other people's feelings.

Have a great evening! Remember to fill someone's bucket!
