I LOVE Writer's Workshop!

Today was a great day in Writer's Workshop! We talked about word choice and how choosing just the right word can help the author create a picture in the reader's mind. We started by looking at the book    Come on Rain by Karen Hesse. Karen Hesse uses wonderfully descriptive words to create her mental picture in the reader's mind. Students worked worked a partner to find sentences and phrases in the book that created a mental picture for them. Pairs shared the sentences they found with the rest of the class. Students were challenged to go back into their own small moment story and choose words that create a picture in the mind of the person reading their story. I was so impressed with what the students wrote! The students' writing has grown so much since the first day of school. I can't to share it with you!

In math we learned another strategy to help us solve multiplication problems. Today we practiced solving a harder multiplication problem by breaking it into two simpler problems. For example, to solve 8 x 4 you can do 4 x4  plus 4x4.  The students are working really hard to learn the different multiplication strategies.

Can you keep a beat? Today for greeting students used a small bongo drum to create a beat for the person they were greeting to try to copy.

Have a great night! Remember tomorrow is a half day.
Remember to fill someone's bucket!
