Writer's Workshop, Indoor Recess, and More

It has been too long since my last post. I need to get in a routine of posting on the same days each week. We have been very busy! In Writer's Workshop we have been working hard trying to find our storyteller's voice. This past week students had their first peer conference. Students worked in pairs to read a small moment story a classmate wrote, students then offered a compliment and a suggestion to help their classmate make their story the best it can be. I was so impressed with both the compliments and suggestions that students gave each other.  This week we also talked about the challenges students have during Writer's Workshop. As a class we discussed ways for students to overcome these challenges. I can't wait for the writer's celebration at the end of the month. You will be so impressed with how much the students' writing has improved.

Besides working on improving our story teller's voice and the craft of writing, we have also been reviewing punctuation and when to use a capital letter. Part of morning meeting this week has been editing my morning messages for grammar mistakes. The students are really good at finding all of my mistakes.

In math we had our first math assessment. I was so proud of how well the students have learned the different strategies for solving multiplication problems. This week our focus will shift to strategies for solving division problems.

Due to rain this week we had our first indoor recess. Students had a great time playing games, building Legos, and drawing pictures.

If you have  not returned your child's permission and money for our upcoming field trip to Historic Deerfield please do so as soon as possible.

Also, remember to sign up for a parent teacher conference.

Have a great night and a great week!
