"I Like Tape Diagrams!"

Today during math as I was walking around making sure all the students understood the lesson I heard words that were music to my ears. Jack, talking to Riley sitting next to him, said,"I like tape diagrams. They're fun!" As a teacher I LOVE to hear students say things like that, statements that let me know they are excited about  what they are learning. So, thank you Jack, you made your teacher very happy today. If you are wondering what tape diagrams are, let me explain. Tape diagrams are a tool students are a learning how to use to help them solve division problems. The students are very good at using tape diagrams to solve division problems.

Jack checks to make sure he drew his tape diagram correctly

Stephanie draws a tape diagram to solve a division problem

Samara draws a tape diagram for 12/2

Miss Gairdi helps Chris with his tape diagram for 63/9

Today students started learning about the different parts of speech. The first one we will be learning about is nouns. Students will learn the difference between common nouns and proper nouns. They will also learn about concrete nouns and abstract nouns.

In Writer's Workshp the students took a break from writing to do some self reflection. Students took some time to read over the small moment stories they have written so far. Students thought about what they would like to improve in their next small moment story. Students wrote a writing goal for themselves and also wrote what they would have to do to accomplish that goal.

Today was picture day and it was great to see everybody coming to school dressed in their best school clothes. ( We even had someone wear a bow tie and someone else wear a tie!)

What a great group of kiddos!

Of course we need a picture with silly faces!
