Math Time

Today in math we started a new module that includes several different math skills. The first math skill that students will be learning is telling time to the nearest minute and solving problems involving elapsed time. Today's lesson was an introduction to some vocabulary words and an introduction to the concept as time as a continuous unit of measurement. Simply  put this means time does not stop even when we stop measuring it. Students learned different units of measurement related time and when it is appropriate to use each unit. Students worked with a partner and a stopwatch to see how long it took them to do different activities. This was a very hands on activity and students loved it!

How long does it take Jack to do 20 jumping jacks? Chris uses a stop watch to find out.
Caroline times Stephanie to see how long it takes her to write her full name

Riley times Ben to see how long it takes him to list 10 different animals
Samara keeps track of time for Jenaily

Cole times Hunter writing the numbers 0 to 25.

                                                         Stopwatch fun!

Today was Tuesday which means a Second Step lesson with Mrs. Palmer. Mrs. Palmer talked to the students about what embarrassment is and things that can happen to students that can cause you to feel embarrassed. One of the things that students brought up that can cause embarrassment is being teased. Mrs. Palmer read a great book on teasing called Just Kidding. It was a great book on being teased at school. Next week when Mrs. Palmer comes back she will continue her lesson on teasing.

Have a great night! Remember tomorrow is a half day and lunch will not be served at school. I look forward to seeing those parents who have a parent teacher conference tomorrow.  :)
