Sneak Peek!

Here is a sneak peek  of a classroom newsletter that will be sent home on Monday, February 23rd. Enjoy the rest of your break! I will be posting pictures from the writing celebration and kindergarten buddies later this weekend :).

Classroom News
I hope everyone had an enjoyable break. I hope you were able to spend some time together as a family doing something that you enjoy.

I hope you are ready to jump right back into school and learning. I know I am! We have a lot of new things that will be happening in our classroom. In reading we will be starting a new unit that includes folk tales, fairy tales, myths, and fables. Students will be reading some stories they are very familiar with, as well as stories from other countries and cultures. Students will learn the characteristics of each of these genres, retell stories in their own words, and identify the lesson or moral of the story. This is always a favorite unit.

In math we will be starting a geometry unit that includes finding are and perimeter of plane shapes. Students will relate finding the area of a shape to multiplication. (Area= length x width)

In writing we will am opinion/persuasive writing unit. I have lots of great mentor texts that I will be sharing with the students to help them write a great piece of persuasive that will help them get what they want. This is a really fun unit.

We will not be having word work (Spelling words) for the next few weeks. We will be using our word work time to help us prepare for the upcoming MCAS.

Have a fantastic week!
