Writing Celebration, Kindergarten Buddies, and Community Appreciation

The past few days have been very busy in our classroom. Students were busy getting ready for our writing celebration; they were putting the finishing touches on their biographies and making costumes to wear at the celebration. We also were getting ready for Community Appreciation Day and the all school sing.
It takes a lot of people to make Sunderland the wonderful community that it is; it takes police and firemen, town council members, business owners, and one really great children's librarian, Ms. Kelly. It takes some really great people to make Sunderland Elementary School the great learning community that it is; it takes two great custodians, wonderful lunchroom ladies, a fantastic school secretary, and a fabulous principal. ( And some of the best teachers!) At our last all school sing we took time to show appreciation to all the wonderful people who make Sunderland so special. Each class performed a song, read a poem, or did some kind of performance to show our appreciation to everyone.

Friday we held our writing celebration for our informational writing unit. We  were joined by parents, teachers, and administrators to celebrate the students' writing. Guests learned about many different topics and famous Americans. I am so proud of the students and how hard they worked on their writing. They really did deserve to have their writing celebrated.

Besides our writing celebration, we got to spend time with our kindergarten buddies. We helped our buddies with their informational writing project t about animals. On Friday our class helped them practice reading their informational book for their writing celebration. It was great to the see the kindergarteners' finished project. Their writing and habitat dioramas were wonderful!

I hope everyone had a fantastic break! I will see you tomorrow! :)
