Somebody Wanted But So Then

Today in reading we continued with our unit on fairy tales, myths, fables, and folk tales. Today we learned how summarizing a story is different from retelling a story. Students learned that when you retell a story you are telling all the events that happened in a story, but you only tell the major events when you are summarizing a story. To help students summarize a story I told them to remember "Somebody wanted but so then". (See poster below for explanation)

After learning how to summarize a story, students went to work. Students are working with a partner. Partners are reading a fairy tale. After reading the fairy tale students will summarize the fairy tale using somebody, wanted, but, so, then.

                                                     Partners  read their fairy tales.

Today is Tuesday, which means Second Step with Mrs. Palmer. Today Mrs. Palmer talked about to deal with angry emotions. One technique she taught students to deal with angry emotions ( or other emotions) is self talk.

Friday is the last day to send in donations to send to soldiers serving overseas in Qatar. Thank you so much to everyone who has already sent in donations. I truly appreciate it.

If you are interested in being a chaperone on our end of the year field trip to Plymouth Plantation please let me know as soon as possible there are only a couple of chaperone spots left. Thank you to everyone who has volunteered to come on this field trip with us. I know this will be a great field trip!

Have a great night! See you tomorrow! :)

Here are few pictures from a game of telephone the students played at yesterday's morning meeting.
