Today in reading we started a new activity in our myths, fables, folk tales, and fairy tales unit. Today I read the students the classic Cinderella story. When I was done students picked a Cinderella story from a different country/culture to read independently. Students will be comparing and contrasting the Cinderella tale that I read to the Cinderella tale that they read independently. We have students reading Native American Cinderella tales, a Cinderella tale from Ireland, one from Korea, one from the middle east, and several other countries.

In Writer's Workshop we continue with our persuasive writing unit. Students continued to worked on their letter to someone at SES they feel deserves to be appreciated. Students continue to think "OREO" to help them with their persuasive writing. Today students checked the rough draft of their persuasive letter to make sure they had all the pieces that are needed to make a good piece of persuasive writing. First, students underlined the sentence that stated their opinion. Next, students highlighted in yellow the reasons that support their opinion. Finally students used a pink highlighter to highlight the examples that support their reasons. If a student noticed something was missing from their persuasive writing, they went back and added it. It was a great way for the students to check their own writing.

When students were sure their writing was complete, they began writing the final draft of their letter. Once the final draft is complete students will deliver the letter. I am sure their letters will make people feel good. :)
Today Hunter shared with the class about his upcoming ice fishing trip.
Have a great night! See you tomorrow! :)
