Springfield Science a Museum

Today we joined 3Z for our field trip to the Springfield Science Museum. We started our day with a hands on class on simple machines. Students learned about the six simple machines- the lever, inclined plane, pulleys, wheel and axle, wedge, and the inclined plane. After learning about simple machines students went on a scavenger hunt in the museum looking for different simple machines.

Samara helps out with a demonstration on levers.

Kateri helps out with a demonstration of the different types of levers.

Daniel helps out with a pulley demonstration.

The boys check out an early snowmobile.

Next we attended a class on plants. Students got open a chick pea and find the embryo inside. The students also planted five different seeds inside a plastic glove. We will hang the gloves in our classroom window and see what sprouts.

After lunch we had time to tour the museum on our own. I think this was the students favorite part of the day, especially the Hasbro room.
