It was another busy day in our classroom. In math we continued with long division. The difference today was we were dividing 4 digit devidends by 2 digit divisors. The students are doing a great job remembering the steps to long division, remembering that the remainder must be less than the divisor, and they are remembering to check their answer using multiplication. Great job!
In writing students learned how to write a great conclusion to their non-fiction feature article. Students are almost done drafting, editing, and revising and will soon begin using the Chromebooks to type their final draft.
Today in Reader's Workshop we continued our work with finding main idea and relevant supporting details. The students read an article. I gave the students one of the main ideas of the articles. On posters hanging around the room were quotes and details from the article. Students worked with a partner, going poster to poster to decide if the quote/detail supported the main idea. Not only did students have to tell if the quote/detail supported the main idea, they also had to explain why they thought that. It was a great activity!
Today we attended a short assembly about the importance of recycling and composting. The program talked about the benefits of recycling and composting. It also talked specifically about the success of the recycling and composting program right here at Sunderland Elementary School.
Here are a few reminders about homework projects. Non- fiction book review project is due January, 29th. (That is next Friday! Can you believe January is almost over?!) The musical instrument project is due next Wednesday, January 27th.
Remember this Friday is a full day.
Have a great night!
